Both orbs are within 5 degrees.I have Pis Merc in 10th, and since I have Gem Asc it is also my ruler. It also squares my Uranus.Since mainstream academia is based on a linear a-b-c kind of mental orienting, Pisces Merc hates it since it tend to perceive things 'at once', as a totality, and have real difficulties in structurally organizing its knowledge, which is really 'knowing' more than 'knowledge'. Its databank is an ocean more than anything else - things go in it and dissolve to become one with it.The ideal academic Mercury in my view is Virgo. If you imagine data being material, you can see how easy it is to portion and organize Earth as a material, and how difficult it is to do the same with water. Having a Pisces Merc and attempting to treat it as Earth is essentially what the educational system demands of the Pisces Merc, but everytime we try to portion a segment it quickly falls back into the ocean of 'knowing': trying to maintain a structural order is incredibly energy-consuming, and requires some sort of vessel into which the data can be poured. Even so, that can be quite painful, because it almost feels like a violation to the ocean to portion it and divide it from itself.Learning how to utilize this Mercury is learning how to utilize its capacity to flow - hence its connection with poetry and the arts - aking to what the Greeks called poiesis. Ask a Pisces Merc something and - if you hit the right spot - a flow of information will ensue, like opening a dam.So it is not really detrimental by default, but due to ow it relates to established structures: the fact that western society has not developed a way of structurally accepting its way of functioning or an efficient method to help the people with it to utilize it. Instead, they are left to their own devices to figure this out, and that can take a while.SimplyLunaNomad that was beautifully written <3OdetteWell education-wise I have a law degree & MA.But there are definitely times when I can be easily distracted, day-dreaming, unable to focus etc...I usually do 4 things at the same time while I'm working or studying. My ASC is Gemini though, and Mercury is in a wide conjunction to Jupiter and squaring Uranus.OdetteOh I just noticed nomad we have the same Mercury mix!I agree that Virgo Mercury is one of the best placements for high achievement academically. Kannon McAfeeLeo-Cancer98,What you've described with your sister's friend sounds much more like he's in some kind of depression or something interfering with his mental-emotional health rather than pointing directly to an astrological factor like Mercury being in Pisces.Mercury in Pisces tends to be idealistic, keeping fuzzy edges around reality instead of bringing into sharp focus and critical analysis. There can be more an attitude of victim or pity taken on, but which allows them to easily (over-)sympathize with the plight of others. I don't know that it should be considered any more 'detrimental' than any other such placement. The important thing I think is to understand Mercury in Pisces is in a general mode of expression that is its least natural one (as opposed to Virgo, Gemini, Libra). It can be harder for the native to bring things into proper focus. The world blurs a bit too much with watercolor blendings as these natives may be seekers or searchers, but may not participate fully into the separation of things into material priorities, using well ordered thinking, or clear communication the way the Mercurial signs or air signs tend to do.------------------Soul Stars Astrology by The Declinations GuyExpert birth chart rectificationThe birth chart is a starting place not a pre-determiner of fate. vansioHis problem sounds more like an inherent Saturn/Jupiter issue.
